Gold and silver for Austria’s downhillers – bottom bracket

Fort William – In addition to the lousy Scottish weather, Austria’s downhill mountain bike team rained down medals at the World Championships in Fort William. Valentina “Vali” Höll, who started the race as the favorite and defending champion, won the women’s race with ease. Schladming’s Andreas Kolb probably only missed victory because of a slip on the course, which was completely sodden by the rain. He took the silver medal 0.6 seconds behind his British Atherton teammate Charlie Hatton. From the point of view of the Austrian team, the World Cup weekend might hardly have been better. With the medals, Höll and Kolb confirmed their form, which they had already proven several times in this year’s World Cup.
