At a press conference Thursday evening, Peel Regional Police said the container came from a plane that arrived late Monday, without specifying the airline involved or where the plane came from.
As per procedure, the aircraft was emptied of its cargo, and the cargo was stored in a storage facility before being removed by illegal means

The container was reported stolen a short time later, Inspector Stephen Duivesteyn said.
According to him, this cargo theft does not look like professional work
but an investigation is underway to find the perpetrators of the burglary.
The police do not know at this time where the gold and the rest of the shipment are going and if they are still in the country.
Peel Regional Police are investigating.
The authorities also claim that this is an isolated act and that there is no risk to the public safety of the passengers.
