LAS VEGAS – The Golden Knights defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Thursday and won their first-round playoff matchup against the Winnipeg Jets in five games.

In the next round, the Golden Knights will face the winner of the series between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings. The first two matches of this second-round duel take place in Las Vegas.

Laurent Brossoit made 30 saves in the victory for his team. Chandler Stephenson scored twice in addition to picking up an assist while the captain Mark Stone had a goal and two assists for Vegas, ranked first in the Western Conference.

Kyle Connor scored the only goal for the Jets, who saw Connor Hellebuyck block 21 pucks. Winnipeg had the second-place fourth ace in the West.

Stephenson launched Vegas forward just 50 seconds early in the game by deflecting a pass from Stone into an empty cage.

The latter doubled his team’s lead to 42 seconds at the start of the second period after catching the puck with his glove, then heading it into the top of the net with a wrist shot above Hellebuyck’s glove.

William Karlsson made it 3-0 at 4:41 after receiving a pass from Michael Amadio.

Stephenson scored his second goal of the game on a one-timer after a pass from the left circle at 8:37 as the Golden Knights took advantage of the power play.

Connor scored the game’s last goal at 14:22 of the last period as the Jets retired Hellebuyck with a sixth skater.
