After a long absence, veteran Saudi runner Yousef Massari made a triumphant return to the continental track, giving his country its first medal, after winning the gold in the 400-meter race, following an exciting competition until the last breath.

A theatrical achievement came after he won first place with a time of 45.55 seconds, bringing to mind his historic achievement about 10 years ago, when he won the first Saudi medal in the same race at the 17th Asian Games (Incheon 2014).

Masrahi holds 3 medals in his possession during his participation in 3 Asian Games, which he started with a bronze in the 400 meter race in the Asian Games (Guangzhou 2010), then a gold medal in Inchon 2014, and Hangzhou 2022.

Prince Fahd bin Jalawi extended his congratulations to the runner, Marahi, describing him as gold that does not rust, stressing that he was completely certain that Marahi would be on time, as is always his custom, offering his congratulations to the President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Prince Abdulaziz Al-Faisal, on the occasion of this achievement.

For his part, Masrahi congratulated all Saudis on this achievement, and said: “Praise be to God above all else. The encouragement of the Saudi public was a great motivation for me in achieving the gold medal. In this regard, I thank my parents who worked hard with me, and I also thank my national coach, Captain Hamdan Al-Bishi, who worked hard to prepare me for this course for more than a full year, which made me return and confirm my ownership of this race, after I achieved the historic record for it 9 years ago.

He added: “Thanks are extended to the Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Prince Abdulaziz Al-Faisal, and his deputy, Prince Fahd bin Jalawi, for their keenness and constant follow-up of everything related to Saudi sports.”

For his part, the Saudi athletics team player, Hussein Al Hazam, won his first medal in the Asian Games, after winning the bronze medal in the stick jumping competition after jumping to a distance of 5.65 metres.

Al Hizam expressed his happiness at achieving the second Saudi medal in this tournament, after his colleague Mashari’s gold, expressing his full confidence in his Saudi colleagues participating in the current edition’s competitions, that they will achieve other medals in the remaining days of the tournament.

Jumper Hamoud Alwani qualified for the final of the long jump competition, after jumping to a distance of 7.46 meters in the semi-final of the first group.

In the semi-finals of the 100 meter race, runner Nasser Mahmoud ended his participation in the session after suffering an injury during the race, and his colleague Abdullah Abkar came fourth with a time of 10.21 seconds.

In the final of the 10,000-meter race, runner Tariq Al-Omari came in seventh place, with a time of 28.46.79 minutes, as he was ahead of the first positions throughout the race, but his fall in the last laps of the race, as a result of being obstructed by another runner, contributed to his ranking in this position.

The Saudi basketball team qualified for the second round of the basketball competition, after defeating the Emirates with a score of 74-67. Al-Akhdar qualified, by finishing second in the first group, behind the leaders, the Iranian team, which in turn won over Kazakhstan with a score of 86-60 points.

If they qualify in the morning qualifiers, runners Abdullah Abkar and Abdulaziz Atafi will participate in the semi-finals of the 200 meters race in the evening.

In the evening, runners Raed Al-Jadaani and Fayez Al-Subaie conclude the participation in the Mother of Saudi Games with their presence in the final of the 1500-meter race.

The Saudi weightlifting team player, the weightlifter Siraj Al Saleem, inaugurates the participation of Saudi weightlifters in the tournament, when he participates in the 61-kg competition.
