Luke Donald (44) has been named captain of the European team which will play the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome (September 25-October 1).
The English replaces the Swede Henrik Stenson, who was ousted on July 20 for joining the dissident league LIV. Former world No. 1, Luke Donald has already represented Europe 4 times in this competition which pits the United States against Europe every two years on courses alternating between the two continents. He had been vice-captain in the 2018 and 2021 editions.
The 2020 edition had been postponed due to the Covid epidemic and was held in 2021 and the next edition will therefore take place in 2023 in Italy, on the Marco Simone course in Rome. The last competition was won by the United States.
