Good deal – The Fujifilm GFX 100II “5-star” photo body at €6,199.00 (-21%)

2024-04-13 22:00:03

Third iteration of 100 Mpx camera from Fujifilm, the GFX100 II marks a major milestone in the history of medium formats. In addition to a very significant improvement in video capabilities, advances in autofocus, tracking and burst allow it to move out of the studios and into the street and even stadiums.

With the GFX100 II, Fujifilm redefines the field of possibilities. Forget cameras that are too bulky, too heavy, too slow and confined to studios. This medium format is astonishing in more than one way. Once sluggish in autofocus, the GFX standard takes second place with this GFX100 II, just as capable of following rapid action as it is of perfectly keeping the focus on a subject (portrait, advertising, etc.). All this is accompanied by a burst sufficient to produce THE right image very quickly. If we add a lower price than the first GFX100 of the name, a video score worthy of a very good camera, a truly all-weather construction, significantly improved battery life and a magnificent viewfinder, we obtain an excellent body. Its price places it beyond the reach of ordinary mortals, but it will be largely justified among wealthy professionals or enthusiasts.

Points forts

  • Best image quality on the market.
  • Viewfinder (removable!) sublime.
  • Truly all-weather construction.
  • Very effective burst and AF tracking.
  • Very complete video modes.
  • Conserve l’emplacement SD.

Weak points

  • Heavier than a 24×36.
  • AF and tracking still inferior to small sensors.
  • High-end optical fleet limited to Fujifilm.
  • Joystick.

NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude the prices of stores whose the VAT policy is not clear (so-called “gray” stores, typically in the case of imports from China).

An alternative

While using the same – very good – sensor from the A7R IV, the Sony Alpha 7R V (A7R V) gives its predecessor a little old-fashioned look. Revised body, refined ergonomics and ever more impressive AF tracking, the A7R V is a demanding, but ambitious and efficient device. Its main fault remains rolling shutter far too marked in electronic shutter, whether in photos or video. It nonetheless remains a formidable device which still demonstrates all of Sony’s know-how in photography.
