Severe sleep disturbances (occurring 5-6 nights/week to nearly every night) reduced expected working life by approximately 8 months, resulting in an average duration of 12 years and 10 months.

Among FPS participants, sleeping 9 or more hours was associated with roughly 9 fewer months of workforce participation. This penalty was even starker in the HeSSup cohort, where excessive sleep was linked to just over 30 fewer months of working life compared to the reference group sleeping 7 to 8.5 hours.
