Everything is going from strength to strength for HBO Max programming. The next original show betting on winning our subscriptions is Our Flag Means Death, a pirate series that also seeks to bring back the rage for sailors and ship fights, as well as treasure hunting. In the first trailer, we can see the characteristic humor of Taika Waititi, who serves as producer and also gives life to the famous Blackbeard.

Our Flag Mean Death is loosely inspired by the real life Stede Bonnet, played on the show by Rhys Darby, an aristocrat who decides to abandon his life of luxury to become a pirate in the middle of the 18th century. And while it contains many such adventure elements, the showrunner David Jenkins says it also works as a workplace comedy.
In the advance we see the aforementioned Bonnet in his ship. In it, he gives an inspiring speech to his crew about the difficulty of their task, they are not very moved by his words. He invites them to discuss together when they face a problem and wonders in the trailer if it is possible to be a pirate and a knight at the same time, since each captain “captains” his pirates in a different way.
And where does Blackbeard come in? Well, it is towards the end of the preview that we see, not entirely in frame, Waititi as the character. Everything indicates that he will be one of the main antagonists of the show, as we are shown how he has a certain disdain for the elegant Bonnet and describes his crew as a group of imbeciles. Despite this, he ends by saying that he finds the whole situation fascinating.

This is the most recent work as an actor for Waititi, who two years ago won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his film Jojo Rabbit – 75%. Before that, as you surely know, he directed Thor: Ragnarok- 
92% and also had a small role in it as Korg, a syndicalist stone monster. Now he will don the iconic beard of one of the most famous pirates in the collective imagination for this original HBO Max title.
On the relationship between the actors of Blackbeard and Bonnet in Our Flag Means Death, this said Jenkins:
They are like an old married couple in a way. If a scene doesn’t work out, Taika can shake Rhys, and vice versa, the way only friends can. And when it works, they know how to bring out the best in each other. There’s a generosity and sweetness between them that you wouldn’t have if you didn’t use two friends.
Our Flag Means Death It does not yet have a release date, but the teaser reveals that it will arrive in March. The project is one of several Waititi has on the way. the other is Thor: Love and Thunder, a Marvel film that will be released in July, and it was recently announced that he would return to shoot scenes for his next feature film, the soccer comedy Next Goal Wins, to replace Armie Hammer with Will Arnett. As if that were not enough, at the end of last year he also premiered the series Reservation Dogs – 100%, about a group of indigenous youth on an American reservation, which he produced and has already been renewed for a second season.
