Hanau, Vienna, Volketswil (ots) – The mobility provider Goodyear and the technology group ZF are announcing their collaboration on tire intelligence technologies in combination with software to regulate all vehicle movements (Vehicle Motion Control) as part of the CES 2024.

Integration of Goodyear SightLine and ZF cubiX enables new safety features and improved driving dynamics. Joint commitment honored with the CES 2024 Innovation Award

The collaboration will integrate Goodyear SightLine*, the company’s tire intelligence technologies, into the ZF cubiX** ecosystem, a scalable vehicle motion control software that coordinates all dimensions of vehicle dynamics. This feeds additional tire and road data into the vehicle, enabling an improved driving experience with greater comfort, control and efficiency.

“Goodyear SightLine will expand our connection to the road and the functionality and value of cubiX by supporting developments in the area of software-defined vehicles,” emphasizes Martin Fischer, ZF board member and responsible for the Chassis Solution division at ZF. “The integration opens up a range of options for our customers to customize and optimize their solutions in both vehicle movement and tire intelligence.”

Through research, virtual simulation and real-world testing, Goodyear and ZF identified the potential of an integrated solution to improve vehicle performance and safety. The Goodyear SightLine solution reduces the risk of aquaplaning by detecting aquaplaning situations early and providing optimal speed recommendations to improve vehicle control. In addition, when detecting aquaplaning, the cubiX software can use tire data to instruct the chassis actuators to take corrective action and stabilize the vehicle.

In addition, Goodyear SightLine with cubiX can achieve improved vehicle response, more direct and linear steering, improved turn-in behavior, greater stability, reduced workload on the control unit and minimization of disruptive interventions.

“Tires are the only part of the vehicle that touches the road. By digitizing this connection and empowering vehicle control actuators with our critical insights, we can help optimize vehicle performance and safety,” said Chris Helsel, senior vice president, Global Operations and Chief Technology Officer at Goodyear. “This collaboration with ZF is a great opportunity to show what tire intelligence, actionable insights and world-class software applications can do for mobility.”

The integration of cubiX and SightLine is characterized by innovative design and construction features and was recently awarded the CES 2024 Innovation Award in the “Vehicle Technology and Advanced Mobility” category.

About ZF

ZF is a global technology company that supplies systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and industrial technology and enables the next generation of mobility. ZF lets vehicles see, think and act. In the four technology domains of vehicle motion control, integrated safety, automated driving and electromobility, ZF offers comprehensive product and software solutions for established vehicle manufacturers and emerging transport and mobility service providers. ZF electrifies a wide variety of vehicle types. With its products, the company helps to reduce emissions, protect the climate and promote safe mobility.

With around 165,000 employees worldwide, ZF achieved sales of 43.8 billion euros in the 2022 financial year. The company operates 168 production sites in 32 countries.

*Goodyear SightLine, the company’s tire intelligence technology suite, provides an overview of tire, vehicle and road health. The technology communicates tire condition, identification, road friction and other tire characteristics. Goodyear SightLine will continue to provide this integral information to make fleets, vehicles and, in the future, autonomous driving systems safer and more efficient.

** cubiX, the first pure software product from ZF, coordinates the driving dynamics as a holistic system. ZF cubiX can control braking and steering systems, the vehicle’s (semi-)active damping system as well as other chassis and drive actuators. It offers another decisive advantage: the platform is compatible with various actuators such as dampers, brakes or rear axle steering – regardless of the manufacturer or the specific design. This gives manufacturers the flexibility to implement different model series with one and the same control platform without additional integration effort. Future updates or upgrades to the software can be carried out “over-the-air” – i.e. wirelessly without a visit to the workshop.
