Gboard users reported, this Friday (08), that the keyboard is presenting problems that affect the text typing experience on Google cell phones. According to complaints, in some cases, keys are displayed in an extremely small floating windowmaking its use impossible.
Some also report that the keyboard is displayed normally, however, the letters are shown in a lowercase font. The keys work correctly, so users who can type easily can still use the keyboard temporarily until a fix is released by Google.
Complaints on social media suggest that problems only affect Pixel line phones. The bugs appear to be related specifically to the use of the English (United States) layout. Some users claim that, when switching the language to English (UK), the keyboard returns to its normal size.
Another possible temporary solution pointed out by one of the users is to activate automatic rotation on the cell phone, open the keyboard in an application that supports landscape (horizontal) mode, and then return to portrait (vertical) mode. You can also force stop Gboard by accessing it from the “Applications” section in Settings.
Google has not yet officially commented on the bug, so the exact cause is still unknown. The issues should be fixed in a future Gboard update, which should be offered through the Google Play Store.
On a related note, the keyboard app is receiving a variety of new features that aim to make it easier for the user to operate, such as a function that scans text in physical documents using the camera on Android.
