Inside the IP67-rated enclosure lies an easily accessible, user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery. Google rates this power source for over a year of continuous operation. The internal acoustic array features a dedicated speaker for audible locating, paired with a physical control button designed to trigger a reverse-find ping on a connected smartphone. Conspicuously absent from the spec sheet is Near Field Communication (NFC).

Ultra-Wideband and Bluetooth Channel Sounding

Proximity detection leverages a dual-radio approach that merges Ultra-Wideband (UWB) with Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding. For close-range sweeps up to 50 meters, UWB handles spatial awareness with centimeter-level precision.

Hardware prerequisites dictate user access to these features. While the foundational Find Hub network supports legacy Android devices stretching back to Android 9, UWB capabilities require a Pixel 6 Pro or newer smartphone. Furthermore, taking full advantage of Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding necessitates upgrading to a Pixel 10 series device or newer. Beyond smartphones, the tracker links into the broader Google ecosystem, allowing users to query locations directly from a Pixel Watch, wireless Pixel Buds, or smart assistants powered by Gemini.

The Find Hub Network and Ecosystem Scale

Hardware is only as functional as the mesh network backing it up. Google anchors the Pixel Tag to its global Find Hub network, which pulls telemetry from an installed base of over one billion active Android devices worldwide.

Software utilities lean heavily into everyday convenience. A native “Left Behind” alert triggers an immediate notification on the user’s phone if the separation distance exceeds safe parameters. For shared items like household keys or equipment cases, Google built a digital sharing capability that allows a single Pixel Tag to link with up to ten distinct user accounts simultaneously.

Pricing Availability and Market Positioning

For multi-item deployments, a four-pack bundle will retail for $99. Pre-orders point toward a broad commercial rollout scheduled for November 11.
