From Bijelo Dugme to Global Orchestras
Before establishing his international touring footprint, Goran Bregović earned rock star status in Yugoslavia playing guitar with his group Bijelo dugme. Over fifteen years, the band released thirteen albums, totaling six million sales. During the 1970s, he crossed paths with Emir Kusturica, an amateur filmmaker and punk band bassist who became a key creative partner.
Toward the end of the 1980s, Bregović stepped away from his rock star standing to settle on the Adriatic coast, fulfilling a childhood aspiration. That environment provided the backdrop for composing the soundtrack to Kusturica’s film Le Temps des Gitans in 1990. That project initiated a fruitful cinematic collaboration that later yielded scores for Arizona Dream in 1993 and Underground in 1995. Beyond his work with Kusturica, he composed music for Patrice Chéreau’s La Reine Margot and Radu Mihaileanu’s Train de vie.
Decades of Live Touring Across Continents
Eventually, Bregović shifted his primary focus toward interpreting his own compositions, though he continued intermittent film scoring work, including Marc Rivière’s Le Lièvre de Vatanen. His live debut in France took place in 1998 at the Olympia. In the years since, he has maintained an active international touring schedule alongside his expansive ensemble, taking his music to audiences across Belgium, Mexico, and the United States.
The March 2027 concert brings his signature performance style back to the local stage ten years after his appearance in Tréguier.
