Pathanamthitta: A girl was found dead at a girls’ home in Konni. Surya, a native of Chittaur, was found hanging in the Konni Sabari girls’ home. The incident took place just after 5am on Sunday.
Surya has been an inmate of the girls’ home for the past five years. Following the death of her mother, the Child Welfare Committee intervened and placed the girl in a girls’ home. The sun had risen with the other children at five o’clock on Sunday morning. But after a while the sun disappeared. A search by other children turned up a rope hanging from a laundry area on top of the building. The children then untied the ropes themselves and let the sun go down. Neighbors were called and rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are taking statements from the management of the girls’ home in the incident. The girl’s body is in the Taluk Hospital mortuary.
