The Ministry of Economy (Mineco) announced this March 25 the dismissal of the manager of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Brenda Miranda Consuegra.
In a statement, Mineco points out that by order of the President of the Republic, Bernardo Arévalo, the removal of Miranda Consuegra as manager of the INE was being announced, starting this March 25.
The bulletin states that the Government of Guatemala “will continue working to strengthen public institutions at the service of the Guatemalan population, of which the INE is a key actor to generate data and statistical information that allows improving the quality of life of everyone”.
At the moment, Mineco has not informed who will take over as the new manager at the INE, and stated that the Board of Directors of that institution will indicate the process to follow after its next session.
The Secretary of Social Communication of the Presidency was consulted about the president’s decision to remove the manager of the INE.
The entity, through a written message, stated that regarding the removal of the INE manager, it is up to the Board of Directors of that institute to give the guidelines to follow. He added that there is a 2021 Board of Directors resolution in which, in the event of the absence or temporary absence of the manager, the order of replacement by the assistant managers is carried out by seniority. And that the Board of Directors has a meeting scheduled next week and the issue will be discussed there.
However, they have not responded about the reasons for the official’s removal.

Brenda Miranda Consuegra was sworn in as manager of the INE on June 6, 2022 during the government of Alejandro Giammattei.
In the resume that Mineco shared when Miranda took office, it was highlighted that she is an industrial engineer from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala.
Also that it had been developed in public administration and in academia.
It was mentioned that he had worked at the INE as part of information collection projects and that he had experience in statistical analysis, research projects, socioeconomic studies and projects with Information and Communications Technologies and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Miranda arrived at the INE to replace Abel Cruz Calderón.
