Government relieves promulgation of Cybersecurity Framework Law – La Discusión 2024-04-14 01:58:36

The Seremi of Government in Ñuble, Valentina Pradenas Andrade, valued the initiative that will create the National Cybersecurity Agency and will make Chile the first country in Latin America to have a regulatory framework on the subject, with the people of Ñuble also benefiting.

The President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric Font, promulgated this week the Framework Law on Cybersecurity and Critical Information Infrastructure. This creates the National Cybersecurity Agency (ANCI), a governing body for the country’s cybersecurity in charge of regulating, supervising and sanctioning all public and private organizations that provide essential services.

Essential services are those that are fundamental for the functioning of the country and the quality of life of society, such as services related to ensuring health, security, the supply of energy, water, fuel, health, transportation, banking. or financial, among others.

Pradenas pointed out that cybersecurity is crucial to guarantee the full exercise of individual rights, especially in this time of digital transformation. “In our region we have been gradually implementing digitalization processes in different institutions, cyberspace is also a great exhibition showcase for our entrepreneurs. This is why, while this development occurs, it is vital that protocols and standards are established to prevent, report and resolve cybersecurity incidents. In addition to having robust legislation, policies and measures that attack these new forms of crime. It should be noted that this is part of the prioritized agenda of 31 government security projects, which has the objective of providing more tools for the prosecution of crimes and new laws to strengthen the State against crime,” he indicated.

The Government proposes that cybersecurity becomes relevant by having a secure digital environment, which makes it possible to exercise various fundamental rights in personal, labor, state and private relationships. In addition, it is classified as the basis for a safer economy that promotes the development of digital entrepreneurship, among other benefits.

Recently there has been an increase and greater sophistication in digital crimes and cyberattacks, in supply chains, public infrastructure and universities. However, during the Boric administration, substantive steps have been taken to take charge of the different phenomena associated with the country’s digital transformation, as well as to confront new computer crimes, the authority added.

Seremi also highlighted that thanks to these advances, Chile will have a high-standard regulatory ecosystem in digital matters worldwide and will become the first country in Latin America to have a framework to regulate the issue.
