[on.cc Dongwang Special News]In order to solve the problem of water pollution, the government has installed dry season flow interceptors in many districts to intercept and divert the polluted dry flow from storm drains to the sewage collection system for treatment, thereby reducing odor. Documents submitted by the government to the Legislative Council Environmental Affairs Committee show that it plans to build dry season flow interceptors at three locations: Causeway Bay, Tsuen Wan and Hung Hom. The total project cost is expected to exceed HK$2.1 billion, and the project will be completed as soon as 2027.

Documents show that the most expensive project in Tsuen Wan District involves the construction of a dry season flow interceptor at Ma Tau Pa Road box storm drain near Wing Shun Street, including a dry season flow interceptor building, and two box shapes at Tai Ho Road and Ma Tau Pa Road. Each stormwater drain has a set of automatic sluice gates and an electromechanical room. The project also includes the construction of two box-shaped stormwater bypasses in the above-mentioned box-shaped stormwater drains. The estimated project cost is approximately HK$879 million and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2029.

In Hung Hom, a dry season flow interceptor is being built at the Wan Street box storm drain near Jing Shan Street. The project includes a dry season flow interceptor building, a set of automatic sluices and an electrical and mechanical room. A dry season flow interceptor will also be built at the Wan Street box storm drain. The box-shaped stormwater bypass will cost HK$723 million and will be completed in the third quarter of 2027. As for Causeway Bay, a dry season interceptor will be built at the Gloucester Road box storm drain near Kingston Street, including a dry season interceptor building and a set of automatic sluices. A box stormwater bypass will also be built at an estimated cost of $565 million. Hong Kong dollars, it is also expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027, and the total construction cost of the three areas is approximately HK$2.167 billion.
