The Government of the People’s Republic of China and El Salvador announced this Wednesday afternoon that they have begun the process to sign a Free Trade Agreement between both nations (FTA).

The announcement was made by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China at a conference in Beijing, China, which was reconfirmed this afternoon during the delivery of a donation of wheat flour and fertilizer from China, which President Nayib Bukele indicated it will benefit national bakers, at the same time it will benefit the country’s economy.

“Negotiating and signing the Free Trade Agreement is another significant fruit of the bilateral economic and commercial cooperation between both countries, which will lay a solid foundation and inject vitality into the continued positive development of binational relations.”said Ambassador Jianhong.

For his part, President Bukele indicated that although El Salvador is a small country, China always sees it with respect and dignity, “it’s what we’ve always wanted. We don’t want to be seen as a big and rich country, we are not. But if we want respect for our sovereigntyâ€.

Likewise, he pointed out that China is the second largest economy in the world and that for a long time El Salvador had been isolated for trade, for local products and commercial economic exchange.

Finally, the president stated that the FTA with the Asian country will be signed quickly so that the country begins to enjoy its benefits as soon as possible.
