The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, confirmed his desire to create a tax for “ avoid excess profits » motorway companies in the 2024 budget. « I confirm to you that we will put in place taxation to avoid the excess profits that have been made by the highway companies », he declared during his appearance on LCI.
In response to a question on the possibility of taxing airports and the tax rate for motorway companies, Bruno Le Maire said: “ We are currently evaluating the modalities. We have clearly seen that the profits of highway companies have been much higher than expected. We studied two options: the first was to shorten the concession period. The Council of State told us that it was not possible.”
