Grammy Awards Postponed Amid Omicron Concerns

Organizers said it was decided to postpone the prestigious Grammy Awards indefinitely due to concerns regarding the rapid spread of the mutant Omicron from the Corona virus.
The concert was scheduled to take place in a hall in downtown Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS on January 31.
“Given the uncertainty surrounding the mutator omicron, holding the ceremony on January 31 is simply too risky,” the award-winning network and the US National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences said in a joint statement. The statement added that a new date will be announced soon.
The nominees for the awards were announced in November. Pianist Jean-Baptiste leads the nominations in a broad field that includes rap and jazz.
The Grammy Awards, the music industry’s highest honor, was also postponed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony was held in March instead of January and included recorded and live segments with a small audience.
