Great Barometer: here are the 3 measures favored by Belgians to reduce energy bills

To curb the increase in energy prices, what are your solutions? The Grand Barometer RTL INFO – Ispos – Le Soir put the question to a representative sample of the Belgian population.

Among a list of 13 measures that we submitted to the Belgians to bring down energy prices, the taxation of the excess profits of energy producers obtained the most success. 46% of Belgians opt for this solution. It would redistribute money to Belgians, faced with rising energy prices.

Next comes the solution of capping gas and electricity prices, cited by 44% of Belgians, with a majority in Wallonia.

A third of Belgians believe that the lifespan of nuclear power plants should be extended, and that this will have an influence on prices.

Three measures that you consider ineffective

On the other side of the list, among the 13 proposed measures, let’s look at those that are deemed the least effective.

  • The abandonment of sanctions against Russia: only 11% of Belgians think that this could bring our prices down.
  • Only 10% of Belgians mention the rise in insulation premiums.
  • Only 7% of Belgians believe that asking citizens and businesses to consume less will have an effective impact in curbing the rise in prices.
