Call for a demonstration for an open, diverse Austria that upholds human rights.

Vienna (OTS) – “Tens of thousands of people took to the streets at the last demonstration at the end of January to defend democracy. On the occasion of the UN Day against Racism, we are now carrying this fire wall against right-wing extremism in front of the Federal Chancellery in the super election year of 2024,” says Niki Kunrath, human rights spokesman for the Vienna Greens, quoting the alliance’s call for the demonstration on Saturday (from 2 p.m., Platz der Human Rights). call. The rally is supported by 122 civil society organizations.

Democracy has to be fought for every day

“Together we are taking a stand against right-wing extremism, racism, anti-Semitism and hate speech. We want an open, diverse and climate-friendly Austria in which human rights are upheld. A country of mutual respect and togetherness that ensures a future worth living and a healthy planet for all of us,” said Kunrath.
“The long-time chairman of the German Central Council of Jews, Heinz Galinski, once said: ‘Democracy cannot be forced on a society, nor is it a gift that can be taken once and for all. It has to be fought for and defended every day.’ In view of the upcoming National Council elections, we could be facing massive changes in Austria. It is therefore our joint task to clearly reject the right-wing extremist threat to our democracy, “never again is now,” Kunrath explains and concludes: “It is about nothing less than the defense of our open society.”
