Greens Vienna/Spielmann, Berner call for extensive protection against violence and those affected in the Viennese techno scene

Vienna (OTS) – After today’s reports of sexualized assaults in the techno scene, the Greens of Vienna are demanding rapid steps from the red-pink city government to combat and prevent sexualized violence. “The reports of those affected from the Viennese techno scene show a shocking system of abuse of power. In order to break up this system, protection concepts from the City of Vienna are needed immediately. Every woman has the right to a party without sexualized assaults – whether as a visitor or employee of a club,” says Viktoria Spielmann, women’s spokeswoman for the Greens in Vienna.

“Many clubs in Vienna are subsidized with tax money. This funding must be accompanied by a particularly high level of awareness and protection against violence,” says Ursula Berner, culture spokeswoman for the Greens in Vienna, and further: “The City of Vienna bears a special responsibility here and has it in its hands to implement concrete, mandatory protection concepts To link funding. If the protection of employees and visitors cannot be guaranteed, public funds must ultimately also be cut. The club operators must make a clear commitment to a zero-tolerance policy.”

The Greens of Vienna are in favor of mandatory security and awareness concepts prescribed by the City of Vienna to protect against sexualized and discriminatory attacks. There should also be more funding for awareness teams in clubs and at events, as well as more funding for training employees who work in the area. A reporting office for abuse of power and sexualized assaults at the Vienna Club Commission must also be part of the package of measures.

“We would like to thank those affected for their courage in breaking the silence. The City of Vienna is now required to take measures to prevent such attacks in the future,” concluded Spielmann and Berner.
