Group of students from Chongqing in the town hall

A group of students from Düsseldorf’s Chinese sister city Chongqing is currently visiting the Humboldt-Gymnasium. Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller and the Chinese Consul General Du Chunguo welcomed the students on Friday, September 27, 2024, in the Jan Wellem Hall of the town hall.

Visits and mutual student exchanges have been taking place between the Humboldt-Gymnasium Düsseldorf and the Chengnan Middle School in addition since 2008.

Chongqing is located in the heart of China, about 1,500 kilometers west of Shanghai, at the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze rivers. The metropolis of 32 million is considered one of the most dynamically developing cities in China and is now one of the country’s most important trading centers. In 2001, Chongqing’s desire for closer relations with Düsseldorf as the center of the Rhine-Ruhr region resulted in an agreement on friendly cooperation. On July 22, 2004, the connection between the two cities was officially sealed by a partnership agreement. Meetings take place regularly between the city leaders and universities, schools and cultural institutes in both cities also maintain exchanges.
