An operation of Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF) resulted in the dismantling of a gang specialized in stealing and selling smartphones in the DF region and in Unai (Minas Gerais), according to information from the institution itself.
Of the smartphones that the gang stole and sold, the majority were iPhones; in total, the group had moved more than R$22 million with the schema.
O mode of operation of the gang involved, after the devices were stolen, passing them on to the first recipients — who sometimes sold the devices directly in stores, or sent them to “specialized stores” in DF or Unaí.
The investigations began after the theft of an iPhone on January 3 of this year and revealed the participation of at least eight people — of which three were already involved in crimes of theft and qualified reception.
As a result of the operation (called “Don Quixote”), search and seizure warrants were executed in the cities of Brasília, Ceilândia, Taguatinga, Samambaia, Sol Nascente and Unaí, which resulted in the confiscation of 45 devices.
