The outcome of a sordid crime when a teenager accused of having killed her infant has just been declared guilty of murder. Paris Mayo, who was 15 at the time of the crime, collapsed upon hearing the verdict.
The young woman from the UK, who is now 19, denied knowing she was pregnant throughout her trial, reports the Daily Mail.
Her child, named Stanley, was conceived in the fall of 2018 according to what the Crown said. For her part, the accused said that she did not feel well, that she had stomach and back pain.
Paris Mayo’s lawyer asked her during the trial if at some point before the birth of her child she knew she was pregnant.
“No, I was always afraid of the idea that I could be. I never took a test,” she told the jury under oath.
The young woman gave birth in the living room with her parents. “He wasn’t crying or making a sound and his eyes weren’t open. (..) I started to panic because he wasn’t crying and I got really scared. It all happened so fast, I don’t really remember it,” said Paris Mayo, according to the Daily Mail.
“I only remember he hit his head and that’s really it. The cord was around her throat when I undid it and that’s where it broke,” she adds.
“Stanley had skull fractures. Did you do it to him on purpose?” advanced the Crown attorney. “No,” replied the defendant. The jurors did not believe his version.
Paris Mayo would have put his foot on the skull of the infant inflicting fractures on him, on March 23, 2019. Then, she would have stuck five pieces of cotton in his mouth. Two pieces were found deep in the child’s throat.
Then she put the little body in a garbage bag and left it on the doorstep of the family home before going to bed.
It was her mother who looked inside the bloodstained bag that made the gruesome discovery.
