Macabre discovered last night in the Saint-Laurent district of Liège. The body of a lifeless man was indeed found, face against the ground… this one was bloody. The emergency services and the police quickly intervened, but the 65-year-old man was already dead. According to the first findings, it is indeed a murder.
It was past 4:30 a.m., in the night from Sunday to Monday, when the body of the victim was discovered by a man from Liège who was passing by… precisely, the victim was lying face down on the ground, in the Émile Wiket garden, located at the top of rue Wazon, at the intersection with rue Saint-Laurent. The body was covered in blood.
The Liège public prosecutor’s office was therefore notified and a raid was carried out early on Monday morning, with the presence of an investigating judge. A medical examiner was also sent to the scene of the tragedy.
Blunt object
If the exact circumstances of the death remain to be determined – an investigation is open – the murder is confirmed. According to the first findings established by the medical examiner, the victim’s body showed signs of blows; blows that would otherwise have been struck with a blunt object. The intervention of a third party therefore seems obvious.
Also according to the findings of the medical examiner, the death of the victim was caused by head trauma or asphyxiation, the man having been found face down on the ground, bathed in his blood.
A neighborhood survey has already been conducted and some witnesses said they heard cries linked to a fight after 8:45 p.m. It remains to be seen whether these cries are linked to the murder of the sexagenarian. According to the Liège public prosecutor’s office, the victim did not come from the homeless community of Liège.
