Moments of tension and uncertainty were experienced this Thursday in the Vatican, when a man, whose identity was not revealedforced entry to the Holy See aboard a car and circulated through its streets until finally being arrested, with shots in betweenby the security forces.
In a statement, the authorities confirmed that the motorist had appeared at one of the entrances and after being rejected by the Swiss guards for not having access authorization, returned “at great speed” and managed to enterforcing the two checkpoints located in that sector.
Faced with the onslaught, an officer of the Vatican gendarmerie shot at the tires of the car, although without being able to stop it. Immediately, an alert was issued and the other accesses to the microstate were closed.
Inside the Holy See, the driver undertook a crazy journey and reached the Courtyard of San Damaso of the Apostolic Palacewhere he finally stopped and turned himself in to security personnel, who ordered his arrest.

The motorist, who entered the Vatican perimeter by force, is detained in a cell and it was made available to the judicial authorities, while further details of the mechanics of the event are awaited.
