ROME (AP) — Matteo Guendouzi’s first goal for Lazio led his team to a 1-0 victory over Genoa on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Italian Cup and a possible derby with Roma.

Guendouzi scored in the fifth minute. Luca Pellegrini recovered a ball and overflowed down the left wing before putting in a low cross that the 24-year-old French midfielder sent into the net.

Guendouzi arrived on the last day of the transfer market at the end of August, on loan from Olympique Marseille.

Attacker Mateo Retegui was close to tying for Genoa. The Argentine nationalized Italian ended up applauding Mario Gila, the Lazio defender who blocked his shot from close range.

But Lazio held on to win and might now face Roma if Jose Mourinho’s side beat Cremonese next month.
