JEDDAH: The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has issued guidelines for pilgrims to perform Tawaf (Circumference) of the Holy Kaaba in the Holy Haram of Mecca, Islam’s holiest place. Pradakshina is instructed to follow three rules.

The first instruction is to avoid sudden stops while performing circumambulation around the Kaaba. This will make it difficult for others to perform circumambulation in the mataf. In the second instruction, believers are asked to remain on the Tawaf track while entering the Matafil circumambulation and when exiting following Tawaf. In the third recommendation to facilitate movement in the Mataf, the Ministry has informed that the Tawaf prayer can be performed anywhere in the Haram to avoid overcrowding.

The authorities have given the instructions as the Umrah season continues in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia expects 10 million Muslims from abroad to perform Umrah during the current Umrah season, which began three months ago. This time the Umrah season started following the annual Islamic Hajj pilgrimage ended. For the first time in three years, 1.8 million Muslims participated in the Hajj following the lifting of pandemic-related restrictions.
