Guinea: the women of Hérico (Lélouma) celebrate International Women’s Rights Day offline

The Association of Women and Friends of Hérico for Integrated Development (AFAHDHI) organized an awareness conference entitled “Women and local development, what prospects? this Friday, March 17, 2023. An initiative that is held in partnership with the Association of Youth for Progress of Hérico (AJEPH), all from Lélouma. The conference was held at the University Nongo Conakry (UNC), in the town of Ratoma, and is part of the celebration of the month of March, dedicated to women’s rights, Guineematin learned on the spot. com through one of its reporters.

Under the dynamics of its new management team, installed last January, the Association of Women and Friends of Hérico for Integrated Development (AFAHDHI) held its first activity as part of its formalization. This association of more than 300 members brings together women and girls from the sub-prefecture of Hérico, in the prefecture of Lélouma, in Middle Guinea. She intends to enter a new dimension. She makes the promotion of women’s rights and community development her priority.

This was suggested by Maladho Diallo, the president of AFAHDHI. “We deemed it necessary to organize it in the form of a conference to make women aware of their rights. For us, this day is a day of demanding women’s rights and not a day of celebrating a party. This is why we invited Miss Diaraye Bah who came to explain to us a little about what women’s rights consist of, how to formulate demands and above all also talk about community development with women. Because there can be no development without women. We all know that women play a very big role in development. Whereas when we take our country, Guinea, women are very poorly represented in positions of responsibility and decision-making. This is why today, we are appealing to the authorities who are in place to work more in this direction to ensure respect for the rights of Guinean women”, explained Maladho Diallo.

Amadou Diogo Diallo, president of AJEPH

For its development, AFAHDHI can count on the Youth Association for Progress of Hérico (AJEPH). Amadou Diogo Diallo, president of the AJEPH said that the two associations will do a lot of actions together. “The Hérico women’s association has existed in Conakry here for more than 20 years, but it evolved in an informal setting. It was in January that we deemed it necessary to support them to help them formalize. They plan to do other activities within the framework of sanitation, sensitization and many other activities that we are going to do with these women. We are asking people to integrate volunteerism as part of community development so that we can have more impact,” he advised.

A national of Hérico, Fatoumata Diaraye Bah, president of the NGO Woman Hope Guinea, was the speaker of the day. She believes it is important that the association of women and friends of Hérico organizes activities similar to this one for the sharing of experiences.

“The idea was to exchange with them since they had the idea of forming an association to participate in the local development of Hérico, it is important that they organize from time to time activities aimed at sharing information, experiences that can help them to evolve in their association so as not to be limited to fundraising activities for social cases (baptism and marriage). So, they wanted to do otherwise in fact: to continue to be in association but in a formal way, and it was imperative for her to have this day today on local development issues, “she suggested. .
