Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant partially paralyzed due to breakdowns 2024-03-31 19:56:13

A breakdown recorded this Thursday has caused the partial paralysis of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant in Matanzas, which could exacerbate the already serious energy crisis that has led to power outages of up to 16 hours in some areas, according to official journalist José Miguel Solís. .

According to Solís, the plant is operating with a limited capacity of 135 MW due to problems in one of the feed pumps.

Although engineer Jorge Gómez Sánchez, head of production, assures that they are working to resolve the problem within an estimated period of a few hours, the outlook remains uncertain.

This is not the first time that the thermoelectric plant faces difficulties. Just last week, after more than two weeks of maintenance, the plant was synchronized with the National Electroenergy System (SEN), only to suffer another breakdown less than 24 hours later.

Solís tried to minimize the situation by describing the necessary repairs as simple boiler problems and a steam leak in a turbine metering element, but the reality is that these setbacks significantly affect the electricity supply in the region.

Despite the optimistic statements of officials, the population continues to suffer the effects of this situation, with frequent interruptions in the electrical service that affect their quality of life and the operation of various economic sectors.
