Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — The Gulf Cooperation Council stressed the need for the Gulf states to participate in all international negotiations and meetings on the Iranian nuclear program.

A council statement, issued after the meeting of the Gulf foreign ministers, on Sunday, stressed the “necessity” of the GCC states’ participation “in all regional and international negotiations, discussions and meetings in this regard.”

The statement called for “Iran’s commitment not to exceed the percentage of uranium enrichment required for peaceful uses, and the need to fulfill its obligations and fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency.”

In addition, “the negotiations should include, in addition to the Iranian nuclear program, all security issues and concerns of the Arab Gulf states, in a way that contributes to achieving common goals and interests within the framework of respect for sovereignty, good-neighborly policies, and adherence to UN resolutions and international legitimacy to ensure strengthening regional and international security and stability.”

Earlier Sunday, the Iranian guide, Ali Khamenei, expressed his agreement to conclude an agreement with Western countries regarding the Iranian nuclear program, saying that there is nothing wrong with reaching an agreement, without prejudice to the infrastructure of the nuclear industry, according to the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).

On Thursday, the White House denied the validity of a Middle East Eye report that the United States and Iran were close to signing an interim agreement to ease sanctions on Tehran in return for it curtailing its nuclear programme.

There has been a significant increase in Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium, as estimated in the latest quarterly report of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The agency re-installed monitoring equipment in some nuclear facilities, after Tehran removed some of them, coinciding with the failure of negotiations with Western countries to reach an agreement satisfactory to all parties.
