Guyanese agree with the eviction of street vendors in the center of San Félix

It is planned that they will be relocated in the areas of the municipal markets and adjacencies.

As of this Monday, July 25, the peddlers who make life in Mariño and Ramírez streets in the center of San Félix, will have to vacate the place, as reported in an interview with scoop, Degnis Mazo, temporary economics director of the Mayor’s Office of Caroní.

The measure is free both streets so that the reactivation of the public transport service can be given, ratified José Rosario González, president of the Municipal Institute of Transport, Transit and Roads.

scoop carried out a consultation through social networks to gauge the opinion of the Guyanese, who mostly supported the decision.

88.8% agree, while 11.2% do not, since this is the peddlers’ livelihood, according to the query made on Twitter.

Lilimar Alfozo, on her Facebook account, commented “yes, I agree, since they impede the circulation of pedestrians on the sidewalks, and they think they are owners and lords of the street and they don’t even pay a tax, apart from dirtying the entire center and not help clean up. And everything is complete chaos in the center, apart from that they want to sell you their merchandise more expensive than in a store”.

Also Ebenezer Ruiz, emphasized that “100% agree, not only buses need their space but also we pedestrians, it is an odyssey to walk through the center of San Félix”.

Through the social network Instagram several users gave their opinion on the matter.

“It was time to order and respect the road corridors, pedestrian sidewalks, gardens, in front of commercial premises and homes, relocate these people from the informal economy and support them in the development of their enterprises in appropriate areas that do not interrupt the pedestrian path and tranquility of users of public environments”, said Wilmer Bislick.

According to Mazo, the informal vendors will be relocated to the areas of the municipal markets and their surroundings.

The user Carmen Guadalupe Torrellas, wrote through Twitter, “with the condition of relocating them in a safe and precise place, that the mayor’s office and entities help them legalize their services and product sales. Without ripping them off.”

“Very good idea, but that they give them a good location since they are also parents and need to bring food to their children, they cannot take them out of one either,” said Marbelia Córdoba, through the social network Facebook.

Given this, other users indicated that this same measure should be applied in the vicinity of the Chirica and Unare markets.
