On February 21, official sales of another Chinese car brand, WEY, began in Russia. The first and so far only model was the WEY 05 hybrid crossover. We learned the main technical features of the new product.
The WEY brand was first introduced back in 2016. Since then, this brand has appeared in China at least a dozen modelsvying for a place in the premium segment. However, the basis of the model line is made up of three crossovers (WEY 03, WEY 05WEY 07) and the minivan WEY 80, which plays the role of the brand’s flagship. As is easy to understand, they decided to bring to us a kind of golden mean – a crossover with the index 05.
This machine can be considered an analogue of the famous Volkswagen Touareg: at least in terms of body length, the “Chinese” is only 8 mm smaller than the “German” (4870 mm for the WEY 05 versus 4878 mm for the Touareg), and even exceeds it in terms of wheelbase (2910 and 2894 mm, respectively). This arrangement presupposes adequate space inside (in reality, one can only complain about the limited amount of headroom in the rear – due to the curtain mechanisms of the panoramic roof).
It is worth recognizing that the premium claims here are justified: of all the models of the Great Wall Motors (GWM) concern officially supplied to our market, it is the WEY 05 that gives the impression of the most expensive and high-quality product in the interior. Comfort options include ventilation and massage of the front seats, Alcantara trim, an Infinity audio system with 12 speakers, three color displays (including a 14.6-inch screen for the multimedia system, as well as a 9-inch touchscreen display for the climate system), wireless charging for smartphones , head-up display for the driver, sunshades for rear passengers, USB connectors and other modern solutions.
The power plant is hybrid. It is based on a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine with a relatively modest power of 150 hp. However, there are two more electric motors: the front one, combined with a 9-speed preselective “robot,” and the rear one, with an integrated 2-speed rear axle gearbox and differential. Their long-term (constant) power is 82 and 50 hp. respectively (peak short-term output – 150 and 82 hp). The total power is 282 hp, and the torque can reach 847 Nm, which allows a fairly large crossover to accelerate to the first “hundred” in just 5.2 seconds.
In general, there are many progressive solutions here in terms of technology. For example, a gasoline engine with the E20N index is equipped with direct injection with a pressure of 350 bar, an exhaust manifold built into the cylinder head, electronic control of the cooling system, a variable-displacement oil pump and two-channel turbocharging. The traction battery with a capacity of 39.96 kWh is built on classic lithium-ion cells with liquid cooling and protection from shock, moisture, overcharging and voltage drop. And the rear electric motor is also the main engine when reversing.
The hybrid system is rechargeable, and the charging connector is of a European type, which does not require additional adapters. The charging hatch is located on the right. With a fully charged battery, the hybrid can travel up to 864 km (power reserve calculated according to the NEDC cycle). Average gasoline consumption is stated at 7.7 l/100 km. The electric range is up to 150 km (according to the WLTC cycle). There are eight driving modes: Normal, EV, Save, Sport, AWD, Snow, Mud and Sand. Also at the driver’s disposal is a modern complex of electronic assistance and safety assistants, without which a car of this level is already unthinkable.
Finally, about the price. The recommended retail price of WEY 05 is 6,499,000 rubles. Sales of WEY 05 will be carried out through the dealer network of the Tank brand. The car is available in six exterior colors (black, white, silver, blue, blue, bronze) and three interior colors (white with blue, black and black with brown).
