Several Havana municipalities reported the fall of hail at dawn on April 20, according to various information shared on social networks.
The journalist of the Cuban TV news system, Lázaro Manuel Alonso, public on the morning of this Thursday: “More images of the hailstorm this morning. They report perceptibility in eastern municipalities. Also Centro Habana, Habana Vieja and Plaza de la Revolución”.
From the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology of Cuba they confirmed:
“Date: April 20, 2023. Time: 6:00 am. A severe local storm affected Havana shortly after 5 in the morning. In Casablanca, gusts of winds of up to 60 kilometers per hour and hail fall were reported at 5:05 in the morning.
“I live in the middle of Vedado and I am awake because the wind and pressure was such that it took the locks on a window and the balcony door. It has already been happening, but they were tense moments because you don’t know what’s going on,” commented a resident of the capital.
LOCAL STORM AND HAIL IN HAVANA
Several users published their experiences on the page of the Institute of Meteorology.
“Big chunks of ice. Woe to those who were on the street at that time. In San Miguel del Padrón the storm was very intense”; “I am from Old Havana, tremendous storm, I think it woke us all up,” they wrote.
“I live on the Hill and it lifted me up. The sky was red, red and strong winds. I figured it was a storm. Then it started to rain. But it was a tense moment,” another person recounted.
The weather forecast for today in Cuba is the following: “it will dawn with little cloudiness in a large part of the country. From the end of the morning it will be partly cloudy, and it will become cloudy in the afternoon, with some showers, rains and electrical storms that will occur in the west and center.
