Haiti: a population subjected to multiple traumas

2023-11-15 09:00:04

In a country that has experienced several devastating earthquakes, and where the unpunished assassination of its president, Jovenel Moïse, in July 2021, left the field open to a gang war, the population lives in a climate of total insecurity. Added to this violence and disasters is an economic and social crisis and an absence of a State which causes poverty, malnutrition and poor health, aggravated by the massive flight of graduates and caregivers in particular.

How to take care of the mental health of a population who have suffered multiple traumas? How to treat in an emergency? Is there still a place for mental health in a completely destabilized country? How can we provide care when we ourselves are subjected to daily violence?
