Egyptian singer Hamada Hilal has revealed that his wife, Asma Samih, battled cancer and has now undergone surgery to remove a tumor entirely — a diagnosis the family discovered by accident, through a newly graduated young doctor, after she suffered repeated fainting spells. Hilal, speaking on the podcast “Masahat Khassa” on Al Jadid channel, said the tumor has been removed and the family is now in a period of close medical follow-up. It is the second time cancer has struck his household: his mother died of the disease in July 2020.
The discovery happened during a family stay on the North Coast, Hilal said. His wife had been unwell for some time, and he assumed it was exhaustion from raising their children. Then she began fainting. The family sought medical advice, and a young doctor who had only recently graduated identified the cancer almost by chance. Hilal admitted his first reaction was anger at that doctor — until the precision of the diagnosis, and the need for urgent surgery, became clear, he told the podcast.
His wife, who has a medical background of her own, wanted none of it made public. She refused to tell anyone, including Hilal himself and their children, hoping to fight the illness in complete silence and spare the family worry. “She didn’t want to tell me or anyone, she wanted to handle it quietly,” Hilal said. In the end, he told only one of their four children — his son Youssef — because Youssef is sensitive and Hilal feared asking other requests of him through his mother would upset him.

Hilal described the surgery and its aftermath. “We did the operation and removed the tumor, but of course it was a shock for all of us, and God willing there won’t be anything else,” he said, adding that he is confident in God’s generosity and that his wife “always loves goodness for all people.” Hilal had deliberately concealed the news from the public to avoid stirring alarm, and his wife is now living her life normally.
