Hamline’s Michael Harris Lands Coveted NFL Coaching Fellowship

Saint Paul, Minn – In a notable achievement for Hamline University’s football program, Assistant Coach Michael Harris has been selected for the prestigious
NFL Bill walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship. This fellowship, a pivotal initiative by the National football League, aims to boost the representation of minority coaches in full-time NFL positions.

Harris will integrate with the Los Angeles Chargers during their Organized Team Activities (OTAs) from May 20-30, gaining invaluable experience at the professional level.

Harris Joins Elite Group of Coaches

Harris is not the first from Hamline’s coaching ranks to receive this honor.Head Coach Chip Taylor previously participated in the fellowship, attending the Pittsburgh Steelers’ OTAs in 2023. Established in 2012, the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship provides coaches from diverse backgrounds with the possibility to learn from and work alongside NFL coaching staffs. Eligibility Requirements

  • Possess coaching experience at the high school, college, or another professional football league level (CFL, XFL, etc.).

Harris,preparing for his fourth season with the Hamline Pipers in 2025,brings a wealth of experience to the fellowship. He enjoyed a five-year NFL career from 2012 to 2016, playing for both the San Diego Chargers and the Minnesota Vikings.
