Hanmi Pharm-Women’s Association, Guro Hospital Professor Nam Ga-eun awarded the ‘Young Medical Scientist Academic Award’



[팜뉴스=이권구 기자] Professor Nam Ga-eun (42), Department of Family Medicine, Korea University Guro Hospital, was selected as the recipient of the ‘4th Young Medical Scientist Academic Award’ jointly established by Hanmi Pharmaceutical (CEO Woo Jong-su, Kwon Se-chang) and the Korean Women’s Medical Association (30th Chairman Yoon Seok-wan). The Young Medical Scientist Academic Award was jointly established in 2019 by Hanmi Pharm and the Korean Women’s Medical Association with the purpose of increasing the research motivation of young female doctors and enhancing the global competitiveness of academic research. This year’s awards ceremony was held right after the regular general meeting of the Korean Women’s Medical Association held at the Koreana Hotel in Seoul on April 30.

Professor Nam Ga-eun (pictured) was recognized for deriving results that can be applied in the clinical field by conducting research on risk factors and prognosis for chronic diseases such as obesity, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes.

Professor Nam has published 39 papers in domestic and foreign academic journals over the past three years. In particular, Professor Nam announced for the first time in the world the relationship between body mass index and the risk of dementia according to weight change in type 2 diabetes patients. For this study, Professor Nam analyzed changes over 3.5 years (average) of 167,876 new diabetic patients over the age of 40 in Korea.

In addition, Professor Nam recently participated as the first author and corresponding author in a number of SCI-level international academic journals (Diabetes Care, Cancers, BMC Public Health) for research using big data, and was awarded the Korean Society of Family Medicine Academic Award multiple times (4 times).

Currently, Professor Nam is working at the clinical site of Korea University Guro Hospital to promote overall health, including treatment, management, and prevention of various chronic diseases of local residents.

An official from Hanmi Pharmaceutical said, “Hanmi Pharmaceutical, which is focusing its efforts on R&D for new drug development with a spirit of creativity and challenge, is supporting young doctors’ academic research in various ways. We will do our best to make it happen,” he said.

Meanwhile, the first recipient of the 2019 Young Medical Scientist Award is Professor Shin Hyun-young of the Department of Family Medicine, Hanyang University, who presented research evidence such as the national vaccination policy, and the second in 2020, Professor Kim Su-jin of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Korea University Anam Hospital, who contributed to the development of emergency medicine in Korea, 2021 The 3rd annual award was awarded to Professor Haneul Ha, an ophthalmologist at Jeju National University, who contributed to improving the quality of ophthalmic care in Korea.

In addition to the Young Medical Scientist Academic Award, Hanmi Pharm is hosting and sponsoring various awards in the health care industry, such as the Hanmi Essay Literature Award, the Hanmi Small and Medium Hospital Award, and the Hanmi Cham Medical Personnel Award.
