Hanwha Solutions and Seoul National University establish ‘Eco-friendly Research Center’… 3 billion investment by 2027

To secure ‘carbon-neutral’ technology in 6 fields… “Securing source technology, goal of human resource development”

Hanwha Solutions, together with major domestic universities, will cooperate with industry-university to respond to the climate crisis and revitalize the circular economy.

The goal is to establish a win-win cooperation model between companies and academia by securing source technology in the field of eco-friendly materials and nurturing talents in the field.

Hanwha Solutions announced on the 1st that it had signed an agreement for the establishment of ‘Hanwha Solution-Seoul National University Eco-Research Institute’ in the presence of Lee-Hyun Nam, CEO of Chemical Division, Yoo-Seok Hong, Dean of College of Engineering, Seoul National University, and Jong-Chan Lee, Dean of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Seoul National University Engineering Building 2 on the 1st.

The eco-friendly research institute is composed of six professors, including Seoul National University’s leading researchers in the field of chemical process, Kim Do-hee and Lee Jong-min.

Hanwha Solutions plans to promote the commercialization of carbon-neutral technologies in six fields, including catalyst technology that converts captured carbon dioxide into useful materials and the development of next-generation eco-friendly plastics by supporting a total of 3 billion won in research funds from 2022 to 2027.

Hanwha Solutions has already established a ‘New Technology Research Center’ in 2017 with Seoul National University to commercialize high value-added petrochemical materials, and has carried out a total of 10 research projects, achieving results such as patent application, thesis presentation, and industry-university scholarship selection.

In addition, the ‘Future Technology Research Center’ with KAIST in 2016 and the ‘Innovative Technology Research Center’ with Yonsei University in 2019 were established one after another to establish cooperative relationships with domestic universities in various fields.
