Harald Krassnitzer and Adele Neuhauser in their 30th joint “Tatort” operation

ORF-2 premiere for Evi Romen’s Austro thriller “What kind of a world is that” on February 26th

In the latest case, the successful duo has to deal with the murder of a young, popular and extremely successful IT employee: Everybody’s darling, one might think at first glance – but in the course of the investigation, clues and insights come to light that not only Moritz Eisner and Bibi Fellner, but above all their colleague Meret Shame (Christina Scherrer) before a great test. The four-piece Viennese indie rock band Kreisky, founded in 2005, not only has a guest appearance in this new ORF thriller, but also provides the film music.

In addition to Harald Krassnitzer (in his 54th ORF “Tatort” operation), Adele Neuhauser (for the 30th time) and Christina Scherrer, there were also Valentin Postlmayr, Marlene Hauser, Rainer Egger, Elena Wolff, Dirk Stermann (as the boss of the murder victim ), Katja Lechthaler and Felix Oitzinger in front of the camera. The author duo Thomas Weingartner and Stefan Hafner, who also won an award, wrote a screenplay for an Austro “crime scene” for the second time after “Her mit der Marie!”. The shooting took place in spring 2022 in Vienna and Lower Austria. “Tatort – What kind of world is that” is an ORF production, made by Prisma Film- und Fernsehenproduktion.

Austro-„Tatort“ goes digital-EP

Having gained experience away from the rock stage over the past few years, the band Kreisky’s first soundtrack work is now celebrated with a special EP (short for “Extended Play”): “Was ist das für eine Welt”, the eight-minute eponymous track , plus four more instrumental numbers from the film. The digital-only EP is rounded off by two older Kreisky pieces, which can be heard at neuralgic points in the thriller:
“Kilometerweit Weizen”, a highlight of the last studio album “Atlantis”, and a live version of the wide-screen ballad “Du glühst”. “What is that for a world” will be released as a digital EP on Living Room Records.

Evi Romen: “Optimization of Appearance or Reality”

“This ‘Tatort’ episode paints a picture of our contemporary world – a world shaped by constant optimization. The team of investigators wanders through various working and living environments in search of the murderer: on the one hand through that of a young, dynamic start-up, on the other hand through that of a declining working class world that seems to suffer from an almost manic compulsion to optimize and whose fears prevail one of the figures are shown. But history touches on this compulsion on all levels. Because with the different life plans and destinies, I noticed that everyone ultimately strives for the optimization of appearance or reality – I tried to emphasize that.”

More about the content

Young, popular and extremely successful: Marlon Unger (Felix Oitzinger) is a hotshot at an IT company. One evening he is attacked and stabbed in front of his apartment. While Moritz Eisner (Harald Krassnitzer), Bibi Fellner (Adele Neuhauser) and Meret Schande (Christina Scherrer) begin to investigate the case, the image they have of the victim changes several times. Was he popular now? Or not? A ruthless guy, or someone with a conscience? One who would win hearts, or one who didn’t give a damn if he made enemies? In any case, the case is becoming increasingly opaque and depressing. Because when the circle of suspects finally gets smaller, another crime happens that puts the investigators under pressure and faces dramatic decisions…

Sequel follows …

In addition to two ORF “Tatort” thrillers, which are on the shooting schedule in 2023, two other films are also celebrating their ORF 2 premiere with “Azra” and “Bauernsterben”.
