HarmonyOS Global Expansion Plans: Huawei Aims to Become World’s Third Operating System Choice for Enterprise Smartphones

At the 2024 Analyst Summit, current Huawei Chairman Xu Zhijun shared the company’s global expansion plans. Huawei believes this will make HarmonyOS the world’s third operating system of choice for enterprise smartphones, even though it is currently boycotted by the United States.

Huawei says the company will work closely with developers to meet their needs. To build a strong HarmonyOS app and ecosystem, the company will initially focus on the Chinese market. Research shows that 99% of users spend time with more than 5,000 apps, which means HarmonyOS should have at least 5,000 apps in its ecosystem.

HarmonyOS NEXT currently has more than 4,000 applications optimized for the system, which is in line with the company’s expectations. But it will take time and effort for Huawei to bring in more developers to develop apps for HarmonyOS. Huawei estimates that its operating system will support 1 million applications in the near future.

Another source reveals that HarmonyOS is quickly gaining ground in its home country. It is likely that HarmonyOS is the second most popular operating system, ahead of iOS.
