Hate Crime: An Outrageously Violent Assault in Vancouver

A man was violently assaulted by people who repeatedly punched and kicked him on the sidelines of the Pride Parade in Vancouver on July 31.

Vancouver police said on Saturday they were investigating a possible “hate crime” that occurred near a convenience store shortly after midnight.

In the video, it is possible to see five people, three men and two women, obviously waiting for someone in front of the business.

As soon as the victim, a 42-year-old man, leaves the convenience store, a woman throws him a “slush”, while the three men in the group jump on him.

The three attackers throw their victim to the ground and riddle her with punches and kicks for about fifteen seconds, under the eyes of the two women who are watching the scene. The five suspects then walk away.

“This is another disturbing assault that appears to have occurred without provocation. We believe this event may have been motivated by hate, and we’re asking anyone who recognizes the people in this video to contact our investigators,” said Vancouver police spokeswoman Tania Visintin.

Several witnesses, including a cyclist and motorists, are visible passing the scene of the crime, but these people were gone by the time the police arrived. Investigators would like to find them to find out what they saw and heard, police said.
