The mountain was bereaved this Saturday at the start of the afternoon, on La Tournette, in the Aravis massif, in Haute-Savoie. According to the Dauphiné Libéré, a rope of two mountaineers was evolving on an icefall on the north face of the Col du Varo when it unscrewed.
The two mountaineers, a man and a woman in their thirties were victims of a fall of more than 500 m. The man could not be revived by the emergency services that quickly intervened. His death was declared on the spot by the doctor in charge of the intervention. His climbing companion, seriously injured, was unconscious.
The young woman was evacuated by air, in a state of absolute emergency to Annecy hospital. His vital prognosis is engaged, according to the emergency services.
Still according to the regional daily, the alert was given around 2:10 p.m. Significant air rescue resources were called in: a helicopter from the Choucas gendarmerie and the civil security Dragon, were jointly deployed on the Tournette to come to the aid of mountaineers in danger.
