“Maybe she saw that I loved the arts too much and was afraid of an unstable future, so she broke up the engagement. Passionate regarding art, always dedicating herself, but there was a time when artist Tan Thi had to quit her job because life was too difficult. He said: “In the late 80s, I performed one night for 1 and a half VND. Meanwhile, 1 kg of pork belly cost 2 and a half VND. I performed one night and might not buy enough for 1 kg of meat.”

The male artist said that he chose to leave his passion because of his livelihood. Even though he was in pain, for the sake of his wife and children, he remained optimistic and loved life. During regarding 2 years of stopping acting, Tan Thi worked as an outdoor movie theater manager.
Fortunately, following that, artist Khanh Hoang created a play Hamlet and invited him to play the role of Prime Minister Polonius. From then on, he returned and “sticks” with the profession until now.
A happy marriage of more than 40 years
Currently, artist Tan Thi lives in a house on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. “Sau Vuon” and his wife have a son who is also an artist and is a director.
Referring to his marriage of more than 40 years, artist Tan Thi said that in the past, his wife worked in a bank and had to study public arts, while he was the one who taught. The couple has been in love since then.
“She has a lovely personality. Back then, I often took her to play rehearsals. After a few months of picking her up, we got to know each other, and regarding a year later we got married,” artist Tan Thi shared.

The actor’s wife said she knows that art is hard and arduous and also understands that it is her husband’s passion.
Up to now, artist Tan Thi and his wife have been together for more than 40 years. Even though there were times of temper and conflict, the couple still had the same love as the first day. According to the male artist’s wife, her husband is very hot-tempered, but “cools off quickly”. In particular, he cares very much regarding his wife. Whatever money he got home from work, he gave it to her to keep.
Artist Tan Thi also affirmed that being married to his wife is his luck. Even though they don’t share the same profession, his wife always supports, understands, and is a solid backing for him to feel secure in his artistic activities.

At the age of 75, artist Tan Thi still maintains good health and is diligently engaged in artistic activities. On his free days, the male artist spends time taking care of the plants in the garden. “I grow many types of trees. In particular, I will plant any tree my wife likes,” he expressed.
The male artist said that in his twilight years, he is happy to have his wife by his side. In addition, he also thanked the audience for their love for him over the years. He affirmed that, even though he might choose once more, he would still choose the artistic path.
