PURDIANINGSIH or usually called Ning, a sewing worker at a garment company, Cakung, East Jakarta, has not been able to go home to his hometown for three years. Understandably, his daily income is only around IDR 70 thousand.

“It’s been more than three years since my family and I have not gone home to our hometown in the Semarang area, Central Java. Apart from the fact that last year there was a pandemic, financial factors were also an obstacle for us to return home. Moreover, my husband and I both “and working as a sewing worker in a home industry, you must first save more money every time you go home,” said Ning to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno and the founder of J99 Corp. and MS Glow, Gilang Widya Pramana, at the Sapta Pesona Building, Kemenparekraf, Jakarta, on Monday morning, April 8 2024.

Thankfully, some time ago a neighbor told him about the 2024 Homecoming with MS Glow program which provides special seats for female workers. Finally, she, her husband and son were finally able to go home again and meet their extended family in the village.

Ning, along with dozens of other laborers and women workers and their families, included a group of 500 homecoming travelers consisting of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy employees, consumers of MS Glow and MS Glow For Men, as well as the general public. They all registered since mid-March with the requirement to buy products for a minimum of IDR 100 thousand.

Listening to the complaints of Ning and a number of female workers, Sandiaga admitted that the community was currently experiencing difficulties in the economy. “This is mainly the cost of living which is the burden of workers in the informal sector, such as Ms. Ning as a sewing worker and Ms. Febi as a worker in a furniture shop. Their income is not sufficient for their daily needs.”

For this reason, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and J99 Corp are holding a homecoming together program to help residents who want to go home. Apart from free homecoming, they also get THR of IDR 400 thousand per person or a total of IDR 200 million. This THR is provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and J99 Corp.

Gilang Widya Pramana added that his party was paying special attention to female workers during their third homecoming. “In accordance with our theme of empowering women, 40% of the quota is for women so they can work,” said Gilang. This time, the number of homecoming travelers assisted increased from last year’s 400 people. He hopes that next year he can help more travelers in need.

The free homecoming facilitates migrants in Jakarta who will return to their hometowns in Central Java and East Java. There are three destination routes, namely Jakarta-Semarang-Surabaya, Jakarta-Surabaya-Malang, and Jakarta-Solo-Yogyakarta. (RO/Z-2)
