Hawaii is so much more than the dreamy place you see in the movies. The state not only has an incredibly rich cultural heritage, but also beautiful scenery, delicious food and people who are known for their friendliness. 1. Pristine waters and gorgeous beaches

The first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions Hawaii is probably pristine nature and beautiful beaches. We have to admit that you are not wrong. Hawaii is the perfect spot for snorkeling, tanning on the beach or surfing. The archipelago is not only popular because of its beaches, but also because it is so diverse. As these are volcanic islands, you can find everything here: from pitch black beaches to fine white sand, or even a mix of both. One of the most famous beaches is Waikiki Beach in Oahu, which attracts visitors from all over the world with its cocktail bars and fine restaurants. Kauai is also famous for its white sand beaches framed by rugged mountains that create a picturesque landscape.

Hawaii is considered an impressive melting pot of North American, East Asian and native Hawaiian cultures. But alongside the various blending influences, the legacy of the indigenous peoples is still very present on the island. This is evident not only in the Hawaiian language, but also in the numerous hula performances (the island’s powerful storytelling dance) at the Lu’au festivals in the spirit of aloha. You’ve probably heard the term “Aloha” before, but very few of you will know what it actually means. Aloha is a Hawaiian word for charity, but it also means being in the present, living in peace, and caring for the environment and those around you with respect and caring. This is why Hawaiian hospitality is so famous – the people are really warm and genuine! You will quickly recognize this in their greetings and the chants, the music and art and all other cultural practices.
3. Sunshine all year round

If you love the sun, another reason to visit Hawaii is for the great weather. It stays warm here all year round. Even in winter, it doesn’t get much colder than 24°C, making Hawaii the perfect spot if it’s too cold at home. The best time to travel is probably between March and September, when there is least rain and temperatures are highest. But one thing is certain: the fact that the temperatures are so high all year round makes Hawaii a perfect travel destination at any time of the year.

Given the many diverse cultures that exist in Hawaii, it’s not surprising that the state also has a rich gastronomy – each culture seems to have added something different to Hawaiian cuisine. The most traditional dishes come from the Polynesian islands in the Pacific and are still very popular today. For example, a classic for everyone is poi – a thick paste made from taro root that has a unique flavor and is a bit reminiscent of a sticky pudding. Another typical dish is laulau, pork wrapped in taro leaves, which has a soft texture and smoky flavor. It is quite similar to kalua pork in that the meat is also cooked in an underground oven to tenderize it. Also from the Pacific Islands, Lomi salmon is one of the tastiest dishes you’ll find. The raw salmon is salted and then mixed with diced tomatoes, onions and chili peppers for an incredibly delicious result. While these are all great dishes, don’t forget to try Hawaii’s tropical fruits! These will impress you with their colors, shapes and tastes.
5. Stunning landscapes

With its volcanoes, mountains, waterfalls and coastline, Hawaii is probably one of the most scenically diverse places on earth. If you are adventurous, the tropical state is the perfect place for you. You can go hiking there or explore lava caves with a guide because Hawaii is home to two of the most active volcanoes in the world: Kilauea, which erupted in December 2020, and Mauna Loa. Both are on the Big Island. You can also take a twilight boat ride to see the lava flowing into the sea. That’s really impressive! The island is so diverse that you’ll be amazed: from lush green mountains to lava-inundated villages to heavenly beaches that look like they’re straight out of a romantic movie. Whether you’re a hiker, explorer, surfer, romantic, or all at once, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth in Hawaii.

As previously mentioned, Hawaiians are known for their hospitality. This is not just a myth, it goes back to Hawaiian culture and beliefs. When you travel to Hawaii, you’ll find it easy to connect with the locals to learn more about their traditions. After all, the islanders do not have the reputation of being the friendliest people in the world for nothing. The island’s caring and peaceful atmosphere is best experienced at one of the traditional Hawaiian festivals.
