WASHINGTON (AP) — Gordon Hayward scored 27 points, LaMelo Ball added 25 and the Charlotte Hornets shook off their long-range shooting woes just in time to beat the Washington Wizards 124-117 on Friday night.

Mark Williams added 19 points and had a career-high 21 rebounds for the Hornets, who had a successful debut in the new In-Season tournament, winning East Group B on the road.

Charlotte entered Friday’s game as the Eastern Conference’s worst team in three-pointers during the regular season. He hit six, his lowest number of the campaign, in 28 attempts.

But Ball and Hayward made sure the Hornets made four of their last five long-range shots to split the honors in two road games. Washington had prevailed on Wednesday.

The In-Season games, except for the final, are part of the NBA regular season for all statistical purposes.
