The CHR of Liège had denounced the facts after the admission of the baby on September 20, 2018. The child was in a deplorable state of hygiene and had been exposed to a major risk by ingesting part of a tablet of Rohypnol. This extremely powerful drug, which can cause overdoses in adults, had put the child in serious and imminent danger.
The baby slept with the dogs
The father had first claimed accidental ingestion before admitting to having inserted the drug into his baby’s bottle. The investigation had shown that the child was living with his parents in unsanitary accommodation and in deplorable hygienic conditions. The baby slept with the couple’s dogs.
The prosecution requested a four-year prison sentence, possibly accompanied by a probationary period. The defense has yet to present its case. The lawyer pleaded for the court’s indulgence in favor of the defendant and a lighter sentence accompanied by a suspended probation.
Judgment will be delivered on March 10.
