He designed an app for lost pets to reunite with their owners

In Argentina, more than 800 pets are lost per day, a situation that generates anguish in the owners of dogs and cats to be able to meet them again, because they are part of their families. The concern led to 24-year-old young man, to design a free download app that has a national reach in which he can alert about the loss and help its owners to reunite with them.

For a few months the application has been fully operational, with more than 7 thousand users, and with positive results, some 70 families were able to reunite with their pets.

Federico Borstelmann, a design and visual communication student who lives in La Plata, is the creator of the “My Pets” application, which not only has the functionality of alerting in real time about lost petsbut also allows access data on veterinarians, shelters, pet friendly sitesand also know about pets up for adoption. Even the dDreams can create a profile of their petsdata that later serves to ask for help in case of loss.

A few days ago Federico was visiting Villa Regina at the home of relatives, and took the opportunity to disseminate the scope of the program, since it can be used anywhere in the country.

Three dogs and a cat are his companions, so his concern about knowing what would happen if one of them got lost made him start working on the idea of the app.

“The click made me 3 years ago when at dawn, driving I see a dog in a street situation, and 100 meters ahead a sign of a lost dog. It wasn’t the same, but there I realized that There was no mobile tool dedicated to reporting pets on the street and finding lost pets in real time.”, explained the young man.

The pandemic delayed the possibility of launching it, until finally on November 4, 2022, the application was available to all users. “We found an incredible reception from the people who downloaded it. At the moment 7,300 people downloaded the app and use it throughout the country. Concentrated mainly in the Federal Capital and the Province of Buenos Aires. Until today there were 70 reunions”, he detailed.

Regarding the application, he explained that it has a geolocation map that works in real time. “That is to say, someone sees a pet on the street and can report it by taking a picture, describing the breed, size, color, age. That report reaches the entire My Pets community at that very moment.”.

At the same time, users can create a profile for their pets “and in case of losing it, the report becomes easier.” In turn, it has functions such as a history of lost pets, you can interact with veterinarians, pet shops and shelters. “Now we are organizing what is related to events dedicated to castrations, vaccinations”, he added.

He finally commented that “My Pets is free, available in the Play Store. The idea is create a responsible and caring community in order to ensure that there are as few dogs and cats on the street. You can follow us on the networks, right there we upload tutorials, tips, and content related to animal awareness. Every day we learn something new, be it about their health, their behaviors or their diet, and this makes me very happy. understand that They are beings that deserve to be treated with respect and above all, affection and love.”.
